John Paling

Dr. John Paling

Oxford University Biology Lecturer, Emmy Awarded Wildlife Film Maker, Author, Risk Consultant, Historian, Winston Churchill Fellow.

John Paling has achieved some minor successes in a diverse variety of careers during which time he moved from his original home in England to become a citizen of USA. As he seemingly stumbled through his careers, the common factor in his choices has remained his passion to be learning new things, relating them to his “Lessons from Nature” and then sharing his enthusiasm and knowledge with others.

The Final Act

The Final Act Is Still Under Development

John continues his busy life while directing his focus towards different projects. In part he is adding more and more original content to the Thomas Jackson website by transcribing and processing many additional letters from relatives and collecting relevant civic records both from Reading. PA and in Ikeston, England where Thomas Jackson spent his early days.

He has also extended the reputational risks division of the Risk Communication Institute under the name Reputational Reckonings. See https://reputational-reckonings.com.  The mission of this initiative is to serve as a positive influence in improving the treatment that customers tend to receive. He is distressed to see companies and organizations in the digital age increasingly treating clients with an apparent unconcern as if they are immune to the negative experiences that they deliver. From his discussions with a wide variety of contacts, this mission is something that promises to generate widespread support across the country.

Additionally, he and his partner, Dianne, are exploring ways of contributing to help motivated students from depressed socio-economic backgrounds experience the joy of learning and, in turn recognize that a good education is the best way out of the poverty cycle. There is such a big need and so many opportunities to help in this important area but while making small contributions already, we are still exploring how we may wish to commit our time and other resources to become highly involved

Finally, like so many supposedly retired professional people, John continues to refine his lessons from a lifetime of learning and travel.

He is still called on to give presentations nationally and internationally and he now also follows brain research to better understand not only how people make personal decisions but also the different factors that are at play in polarized societies.

In the end, he returns to the important lessons that are evident from studying the ways of nature. Across the planet, both now and in the past, it is clear that different groups can survive together only if there is a balance of nature. Hopefully the factions in our society will see the benefits of greater tolerance and mutual respect for differences.
